UMD and SERVIR-Mekong Organized Technical Workshop in Myanmar
A number of developing countries have been using the globally and regionally consistent forest extent and change data provided by the UMD GLAD team for national forest monitoring and reporting. In particular, Myanmar Forest Department is using GLAD products in the context of REDD+ program implementation. Recently, the GLAD team released a new regionally consistent annual woody vegetation structure dataset for the Lower Mekong region created together with the SERVIR-Mekong team. The method behind this new dataset was recently published in Remote Sensing of Environment.
In early July, GLAD (Peter Potapov) and SERVIR-Mekong organized a training workshop to provide an in-depth overview of the GLAD automated satellite data processing system and vegetation structure and change mapping methods and to discuss the application of existing datasets for national forest reporting by Myanmar Forest Department. The workshop was held in the Forest Department office in Naypyidaw and was attended by the FD and OneMap Myanmar specialists. The team expects that this workshop will serve as a starting point for close collaboration between national specialists and the GLAD team.
