An Interview with Dr. Janet Nackoney, UMD's Dept. of Geographical Sciences
Dr. Janet Nackoney was interviewed about her research in the Congo Basin during a recent visit to Kyoto University's Primate Research Institute (PRI) in Japan. She was invited to PRI to host a workshop on geospatial modeling and GIS for land use planning and conservation as part of a capacity building platform for African primatologists funded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.
In the interview, Dr. Nackoney talks about using geospatial tools to create a habitat suitability model for the endangered bonobo in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) as well as her participation in land use planning and participatory mapping activities led by the African Wildlife Foundation in northern DRC.
