GEOG Researchers Address Economic Dangers of ‘Peak Oil’
GEOG researchers Drs. Klaus Hubacek and Kuishuang Feng, together with Dr. Christina Prell from the UMD Department of Sociology and Dr. Christian Kerschner, of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology at the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona, in a new study demonstrate which sectors could put the entire U.S. economy at risk when global oil production peaks (‘Peak Oil”). This multi-disciplinary team recommends immediate action by government, private and commercial sectors to reduce the vulnerability of these sectors.
