Resop, Jonathan

Bio

Dr. Jonathan Resop has been a lecturer in the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland since 2013, teaching full time in the MS GIS program. He teaches courses in spatial modeling, Python programming, lidar remote sensing, as well as the Capstone course. Jonathan earned his Ph.D. at Virginia Tech in Biological Systems Engineering. During his time at Virginia Tech, he worked on projects related to spatial modeling and remote sensing, in particular, problems involving agricultural and ecological systems. His dissertation applied terrestrial lidar to ecological applications such as monitoring streambank retreat and stream restoration design. After completing his Ph.D. he worked as a post-doc for the USDA-ARS in the Crop Systems and Global Change Lab in Beltsville (now the Adaptive Cropping Systems Laboratory) simulating the potential production capacity of crops for regional food systems using a geospatial crop model. He is collaborating with the StREAM Lab at Virginia Tech to study the application of drone laser scanning for quantifying physical properties of riverscapes. Jonathan received his undergraduate degrees at the University of Maryland, College Park in Biological Resources Engineering and Computer Science.
