Bio

Her work is focused on advancing the use of satellite information for agricultural monitoring at the field to global scales, supporting decisions in food security and agricultural markets. This work is motivated by the huge potential for increasing the operational utilization of Earth Observations for human welfare issues and specifically food security. She is the Director of the NASA Harvest Program, NASA’s Applied Sciences Food Security and Agriculture Program, and worked closely with national and international partners to initiate the G-20 GEOGLAM (GEO Global Agricultural Monitoring) Initiative adopted in 2011. Within this initiative she is a Program Scientist at the GEOGLAM Secretariat and leads the Crop Monitor initiative providing monthly, global crop assessments and early warning of areas of potential crop production shortfalls. She is a member of the GEOGLAM-Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) Technical Team, the NASA Water Resources Applied Science Team, the NASA LCLUC (Land-Use Land-Cover Change) Science Team and leads the NASA SERVIR Food Security and Agriculture Theme of the Applied Sciences Team and was awarded the US APEC ASPIRE Prize for work on Technologies for Food Security.
