Sybil Paige Receives Outstanding Staff Award
Director of Administrative Services, Sybil Paige was honored at the BSOS Faculty and Staff Recognition Reception on April 12, receiving the Outstanding Staff Award.
Sybil has worked in the Department of Anthropology since 2008. To say that Sybil is very skilled in her position as Director of Administrative Services is an understatement. She is extremely accomplished in the areas of financial management, accounting, budgeting, personnel management, and business development, to name some of the most important areas. However, in addition to these obvious skills, Sybil has a unique ability to manage many different tasks, with pressing deadlines and minimal room for error, while maintaining a workplace environment that is welcoming and supportive. She sees and can assess the dynamics of the department as a whole, the different groups within the department (faculty, staff, students), and each person as an individual. She understands the unique needs and challenges of these groups, and of individuals. She takes the time to interact with and help each person based on his or her individual needs. She tailors her support to each individual, which includes delegating tasks to other staff members, as needed. What is even more extraordinary is that she always does this with a smile and positive attitude. She has the ability to focus on the immediate next steps and in the process provide a calming effect on others.
Sybil's dedication and commitment to the Department exceeds 100%. She works very long hours, often on weekends and evenings. She cares deeply about the Department, and she genuinely celebrates in the successes of faculty and students and the department overall. Our successes are hers. She is always supportive of any actions that bring more resources to faculty, students and staff. She is always available to help brainstorm on new initiatives, ranging from office management to how we can increase diversity in the Department. Sybil takes great pride in being very competent at her profession, and always strives to be more knowledgeable. She is equally supportive of those she supervises and actively encourages them to seek professional devolpment opportunities.
We congratulate Sybil for receiving this well-deserved recognition for all that she does for us. The Department of Anthropology benefits greatly from having Sybil contributing to our successes, and we really do appreciate her. Well done, Sybil!
